The Captain's Fishing Tips
The Captain or the mate are there to help and explain how to use the rods, reels, fix bait, line use and any other fishing related question you may have.
The following are some simple guidelines for helping you hook the catch of a lifetime...
- Be Patient. Sometimes it takes a little longer to get a bite.
- Everyday Conditions Vary...more tide, less tide, strong winds, light winds...these factors all contribute to your fishing style.
- Hooks. Optimum placement should be about 6 inches from the ocean floor.
- Style. A simple UP and DOWN motion of your fishing rod greatly improves your odds of hooking a fish.
- Be Attentive. Never leave you fishing rod unattended!
We are fishing primarily for cod or mackerel and you may also hook a herring once in awhile. You may even catch a fish that looks like it came from Mars, a sculpin, which is a scavenger fish and is not marketable. Once in awhile rock eels, with their long slender orange bodies and big head and mouth, end up on your line. Despite appearances their fillets are great.
